Staying in Monastiraki: beyond the square
Use the square as your reference point, then look closely at which direction your accommodation faces. Ifestou carries market foot traffic, Ermou draws shoppers, and Athinas has a different rhythm around the food market. A room overlooking an internal courtyard can feel quite different from one above a pedestrian route, even within the same building.

Eating in Monastiraki
The streets around the square have plenty of quick grills and sit-down restaurants. For a different lunch route, head north toward the market and consider Diporto Agoras or Ta Karamanlidika tou Fani. Check their opening arrangements directly, especially if you are planning a late meal rather than lunch.
Getting around from Monastiraki
Monastiraki station has lines 1 and 3. Line 1 is useful for Thissio and Piraeus, while line 3 connects with Syntagma. For the airport, check that the arriving train actually continues there. The square and surrounding pedestrian streets can slow the final walk with wheeled luggage.
