Day trips from Zadar

Zadar makes a good base for days out. These are the trips worth the time, with how long each takes, how to get there on your own, and when a tour is the easier choice.

  1. Plitvice Lakes

Plitvice rewards an early departure and a clear walking plan. The journey from Zadar takes about two hours by road, leaving less time in the park than a local stay would. Choose your entrance, admission slot and transport together, then follow a route that gets you back to the correct exit.

Car, about two hours each way

  2. Krka National Park

For a first visit to Krka, build your day around Skradinski buk rather than trying to connect every part of the park. Skradin and Lozovac offer different approaches, with access arrangements that need checking before travel. From Zadar, allow roughly an hour and a half by road and protect enough time for walking.

Car, about an hour and a half each way

  3. Ugljan and Pašman

These neighboring islands are linked by a bridge, but visiting both takes more planning than a simple crossing to Preko. Decide whether you want an easy beach day on Ugljan or a longer journey toward Pašman. Your choice affects the departure port, the need for onward transport and the return sailing.

Passenger boat, a short crossing, depending on the service

  4. Kornati islands

A Kornati outing means spending much of the day aboard a boat, so the vessel and route matter as much as the destination. Compare actual stops and time ashore before booking. Some itineraries combine Kornati with Telašćica, which is a separate protected area and changes how the day is divided.

Group excursion boat, a full day, with substantial sailing time

Questions

Day trips from Zadar

What is the best day trip from Zadar?

Plitvice Lakes is the one most visitors choose. Drive to the entrance named on your booking rather than choosing a car park on arrival. Allow time to park and walk to admission, and check the park's current road and entrance information before leaving.

Can I see all of Plitvice in one day?

You can cover a substantial marked route, but the journey from Zadar limits your time. Choose a manageable circuit rather than every path.

Is Krka closer to Zadar than Plitvice?

Krka is generally the shorter road trip, making it easier to combine a waterfall walk with a less demanding travel day.

Can I visit both islands without a car?

It may be possible with suitable local transport, but check every connection. A Preko-based day is simpler for foot passengers.

Are Kornati and Telašćica the same place?

They are separate protected areas. Some boat trips combine them, so check the itinerary to understand where you will actually stop.
