2 days in Lisbon with Alfama and Belém

Give each day one main area so you spend less time crossing Lisbon. Start with the castle hill and walk downhill through Alfama, then use the second morning for Belém. This plan leaves room for queues, uneven pavements and a proper lunch, with the flatter streets of Baixa providing a useful break between climbs.

At a glance

Where to stay
Stay in Baixa for straightforward walking between Rossio, Praça do Comércio and the river. Choose Chiado if you prefer being closer to the evening restaurants around Largo do Camões, accepting a climb home.

  2. Day 2: Belém monuments and an evening above the center

    Morning
Take a train from Cais do Sodré that stops at Belém. Walk to Jerónimos Monastery and use the entry arrangements shown on your ticket. Afterwards, stop at Pastéis de Belém for a pastel de nata.

Tips

Tips for 2 days in Lisbon

  • Wear shoes with grip, as the descent through Alfama includes polished cobbles, steps and sloping lanes.
  • Check that your outbound train stops at Belém before boarding at Cais do Sodré.
  • Keep your Belém afternoon flexible so a monastery queue does not force you to rush the river walk.

Can I see Lisbon properly in two days?

Two days cover the castle hill, central squares and Belém comfortably if you group sights by area and limit interior visits.
