Tallinn tours and tickets
Tallinn is easy to visit on the day. The Old Town is free to walk, most museums sell tickets at the door, and the towers have short queues. What needs a booking is a weekend table in the Old Town, the ferry from Helsinki in summer and a sauna session in winter. Lahemaa and Pärnu make good day trips by car or bus.
Book these first
- Old Town dinner at weekends
- one to two weeks ahead. The best known restaurants inside the walls fill on Friday and Saturday, and the Christmas season is busier still.
- Helsinki ferry tickets
- a few days ahead in summer. Fast ferries run many times a day, but summer Fridays and Sundays and Christmas markets fill the cheaper departures.
- A sauna session
- a few days ahead in winter. Private and shared sessions are limited, and weekends sell out first.

Booking tours and tickets in Tallinn
Do I need to book the Helsinki ferry?
On summer weekends, yes, a few days ahead. Ferries fill in the morning. On weekdays and in winter, you can often buy on the day.
Is the Tallinn Card worth it?
It is if you plan three or more paid visits and use public transport. For free sights and a couple of towers, single tickets cost less.
Is the Old Town free?
Yes. The streets and squares are free to walk. Towers, museums and the wall sell tickets. Cafes and restaurants add up, so choose carefully.
Do I need a car for Lahemaa?
It makes things easier. Buses are limited and stop at a few places. A rental car or a small-group tour gives more freedom.
Is a sauna worth it?
Yes, if you like heat. Estonians use saunas often, and a public session is a good way to try one. Check the swimwear rules first.
What can wait until I arrive?
The Old Town, the museums, the towers and Kadriorg can all be done on the day. Book a weekend dinner, the ferry and a winter sauna first.
