3 days in Rotterdam from Delfshaven to Katendrecht

Three days lets you compare the older harbor streets with Rotterdam's later buildings without rushing between them. Start with the center and a river cruise, give the second day to Delfshaven and Museumpark, then spend your final day across the Erasmus Bridge. The routes leave room for weather changes and a longer lunch.

  1. Day 1: The center and the harbor

    Morning
Begin outside Rotterdam Centraal and walk toward the center through the shopping streets. Continue to the Markthal and look up at its painted ceiling before visiting the Cube Houses. Allow time to explore the small museum house.
    Afternoon
Walk from the Oude Haven toward the river, then join a harbor boat tour from its confirmed departure point. Allow extra walking time along the quays, where crossings and large buildings can make distances feel longer than expected.
    Evening
Return to the center along the waterfront before heading toward Witte de Withstraat. Keep the evening loose rather than booking another attraction, especially if your boat departure was later in the afternoon.
    Dinner
Choose an Indonesian restaurant for dinner and order a selection of rice, vegetable and meat dishes to share.
  2. Day 2: Delfshaven and Museumpark

    Morning
Take the metro to Delfshaven and walk toward Voorhaven and Aelbrechtskolk. Spend the morning following the water, looking at the church exterior and the windmill. Check the official site before counting on access inside the church.
    Afternoon
Travel back toward Museumpark for a booked visit to Boijmans Depot. Leave roughly two hours for the building and displays, then take a short walk through the park rather than trying to fit in another major museum.
    Evening
Walk toward Het Park for a quieter finish. If you want an elevated view, reserve the Euromast separately and check the sunset time and weather before choosing your slot.
    Dinner
Find a neighborhood restaurant near Museumpark for dinner. Order a seasonal main and leave time for the walk toward Het Park.
  3. Day 3: Wilhelminapier and Katendrecht

    Morning
Cross the Erasmus Bridge while you are fresh and explore Wilhelminapier on foot. Follow the edges of the pier to compare views upriver and toward the port, rather than staying only on the main approach road.
    Afternoon
Cross the Rijnhavenbrug to Katendrecht and explore Deliplein and the waterfront. Allow a leisurely lunch and a walk along the peninsula. Check current opening arrangements before planning a food hall visit.
    Evening
Return across the river before dinner if you want a final look at the skyline from the north bank. Alternatively, stay for a south bank meal and use Wilhelminaplein metro station afterwards.
    Dinner
Book dinner at Hotel New York Café-Restaurant and choose a fish dish or a vegetarian main from the current menu.
Tips

Tips for 3 days in Rotterdam

  • Keep Delfshaven and Museumpark together so you explore the western side of the city without repeatedly crossing the river.
  • Check the church and windmill's visitor arrangements separately. A pleasant walk around Delfshaven does not depend on either building being open.
  • For a water taxi ride, check the operator's booking process and landing points before treating it as your journey home.
Questions

3 days in Rotterdam from Delfshaven to Katendrecht

How does the three day plan differ from a weekend?

It adds a full morning in Delfshaven and gives Wilhelminapier and Katendrecht their own day. Museum visits and river walks have more breathing room.

Can I fit Delft into three days?

Yes, but replace a substantial part of this plan. Swap the final day for Delft if canals and pottery interest you more than the south bank.

Is the Euromast essential to this route?

No. It is an optional addition after Museumpark. The bridge and waterfront already provide several useful viewpoints without needing a tower visit.

Where should I spend the evenings?

Witte de Withstraat suits a central evening with plenty of dinner choices. Wilhelminapier works well after exploring the south bank, with a metro journey back.
