2 days in Paris with art, island walks and the Eiffel Tower

Use two days for a compact route through central Paris, with one major museum and time outdoors between visits. Start on the islands and walk south into the Latin Quarter, then spend the second day between the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. Leave Montmartre and Versailles for another visit so that queues and cross-city journeys do not consume the weekend.

At a glance

Where to stay
Stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés for an easy walk to the river and the Latin Quarter. The Louvre and the 1st also suits this route if being close to the museum matters more than evening dining choices.

Other lengths

  1. Day 1: The islands and the Left Bank

    Morning
Book Sainte-Chapelle for the morning, allowing time for security before your slot. Continue along the Île de la Cité to Notre-Dame, then cross to the Île Saint-Louis for a quieter riverside walk before lunch.
    Afternoon
Cross into the Latin Quarter and follow Rue Saint-Jacques toward the Panthéon. Continue to the Luxembourg Gardens, then walk west along Rue de Vaugirard toward Saint-Sulpice. This keeps the afternoon on foot without another major admission queue.
    Evening
Explore Rue de Seine and Rue de Buci after dinner, then return to the river by Rue Bonaparte. Pont des Arts gives you a broad view toward the islands without needing to fit in a boat departure.
    Dinner
Choose a traditional bistro around Saint-Sulpice and order roast chicken or a vegetable dish, leaving time for an unhurried dinner.
  2. Day 2: The Louvre and the western riverbanks

    Morning
Take an early timed entry at the Louvre and choose three or four sections before arriving. Allow roughly three hours, including the walk between galleries, rather than trying to cover every famous painting.
    Afternoon
Walk through the Tuileries and stop for lunch before continuing toward the Seine. Follow the riverside west toward Pont Alexandre III, then cross into the 7th. Allow about an hour for the walk with pauses.
    Evening
Use a reserved Eiffel Tower slot if going up is a priority. Otherwise, cross Pont d'Iéna and climb toward the Trocadéro terraces for the view. Keep this evening flexible because museum fatigue can make another queue unwelcome.
    Dinner
Eat at a neighborhood bistro in the 7th and order duck confit or fish with seasonal vegetables before heading toward the tower.
Tips

Tips for 2 days in Paris

  • Put your Louvre reservation into the plan first, then arrange the two days around its available opening days and entry slots.
  • Carry a small bag for the island visits and museums, since security checks take longer with bulky luggage.
  • Wear shoes suited to stone paving, and use the metro between the Louvre area and the Eiffel Tower if your feet need a break.
Questions

2 days in Paris with art, island walks and the Eiffel Tower

Can I see the main sights in two days?

You can visit the islands, one major museum and the Eiffel Tower area comfortably. Adding Versailles or several more museums would leave little time for walking and meals.

Should I visit both the Louvre and Musée d'Orsay?

Choose one for this short route. The Louvre suits a broad art and antiquities visit, while Musée d'Orsay is a more focused choice for nineteenth-century painting.

Do I need to go up the Eiffel Tower?

Only if the view from the tower matters to you. Walking between the Champ de Mars and Trocadéro gives you several good views of the structure itself.

What should I change if it rains?

Shorten the Luxembourg Gardens and riverside walks, and spend longer in the museum you have booked. Avoid adding another timed visit unless you can comfortably reach it.
