Paphos castle beside the harbor and marina, seen from across the water
Paphos · Itinerary

2 days in Paphos with the main sights on foot and by bus

Give the harbor ruins your first morning and the northern tombs your second. This keeps the two largest outdoor sites out of the hottest part of the day and avoids crossing town repeatedly. Between them, leave room for the old town market, a short castle visit and a swim. Use a bus or taxi for the climb from the coast to Ktima.

  1. Day 1: Roman mosaics and the harbor shoreline

    Morning
Start at Paphos Archaeological Park and allow most of the morning for the mosaic houses. Include the Odeon and Roman Agora during the same visit, rather than returning later. Bring water and check seasonal opening hours before setting out.
    Afternoon
Have lunch near the harbor, then visit Saint Paul's Pillar and Agia Kyriaki. Leave the exposed ruins behind for a shaded break before walking to Paphos Castle. Allow about 20 minutes inside the fort, with extra time for the harbor view.
    Evening
Follow the waterfront east toward Poseidonos Avenue as the light softens. Turn back when you have walked far enough for your energy level, keeping dinner near your accommodation so the first day finishes without another journey.
    Dinner
Choose a fish taverna near the harbor and order grilled fish with salad. Ask which fish is available before deciding.
  2. Day 2: Underground tombs and the hill town

    Morning
Take a bus or taxi to the Tombs of the Kings early. Wear shoes with grip for the steps into the rock-cut chambers. Afterwards, continue to the old town by transport, aiming to reach the municipal market before lunch.
    Afternoon
Walk around the market streets, then choose one museum rather than trying to fit in both. Check its official opening hours first. After lunch, return to the coast for a swim or a rest near your hotel.
    Evening
Keep the final evening around the harbor, where you can watch the fishing boats and walk a short section of the coastal path. If you prefer dinner in Ktima, arrange your journey back before settling at a table.
    Dinner
Find a traditional taverna in the old town and order souvlaki or a vegetable dish, with village salad to share.
Tips

Tips for 2 days in Paphos

  • Visit the Archaeological Park and Tombs of the Kings on separate mornings so neither becomes a rushed stop in the afternoon heat.
  • Carry shoes suitable for uneven stone as well as anything you need for swimming. The tomb chambers are awkward in loose beach footwear.
  • Check museum opening hours before traveling uphill to Ktima, then build your market and lunch stop around the museum you choose.
Questions

2 days in Paphos with the main sights on foot and by bus

Can I see the main sights in two days?

Yes. Two days cover the harbor ruins, castle, Tombs of the Kings and a short old town visit. Leave the countryside for another stay if you want time to explore these places properly.

Do I need a car for this itinerary?

No. The harbor sights are walkable, while buses and taxis cover the tombs and old town. A car adds little to these two days.

Which archaeological site should I visit first?

Start with Paphos Archaeological Park on your first morning. Its mosaic houses deserve an unhurried visit, and the harbor provides an easy lunch stop afterwards.

Can I include a beach break?

Yes. Keep the second afternoon flexible for a swim after the old town. Choose a beach near your accommodation to avoid spending that break traveling.
