Chemin de la Corniche walking route and access

Use the Corniche as a link between the Bock end of the old town and Plateau du Saint-Esprit. Walking this way keeps the valley beside you and ends near the lift to Grund. Pause to pick out Neumünster below before deciding whether to descend. The short promenade becomes a longer outing once you add the river quarter and a return through the upper streets.

When to go

The best time to visit

Choose daylight if you want to identify the abbey, river and streets below. Allow longer when the paths are wet, and leave time for the descent if you plan to continue into Grund.

Questions

Chemin de la Corniche walking route and access

Do I need a ticket for the Corniche?

No. It is a free public walkway. Tickets for the Bock Casemates cover a separate underground attraction and are not required for the promenade.

Can I combine the Corniche with Grund?

Yes. Continue toward Plateau du Saint-Esprit and use the lift down to Grund. Check the lift's operating status before relying on it for your return.

Is the Corniche a circular walk?

The promenade itself is a route along the ramparts. Make a loop by returning through the upper-town streets or adding Grund and the Saint-Esprit lift.

Can I take a pushchair along the route?

Access depends on the streets you use to join and leave the promenade. Choose an approach from the upper town and avoid routes descending by stairs into the valley.
