The Alhambra palace complex on its hill above Granada

2 days in Granada: palaces, viewpoints and tapas

Give the Alhambra most of your first morning, then keep the afternoon close to the Darro rather than adding another major visit. Use the second day for the cathedral, Royal Chapel and a measured climb through the Albaicín. This route puts the two biggest visits on separate days and leaves room to sit down between Granada's hills.

At a glance

Where to stay
Base yourself in Plaza Nueva and the Darro for this short visit. You can reach the riverside lanes quickly and start the climb toward the Alhambra without first crossing the city.

  1. Day 1: The Alhambra and the river below

    Morning
Allow three to four hours for the Alhambra and Generalife. Arrange the gardens and fortress around your Nasrid Palaces entry slot, rather than treating that appointment as the start of the whole visit.
    Afternoon
Descend along Cuesta de Gomérez to Plaza Nueva after lunch. Follow Carrera del Darro toward Paseo de los Tristes, stopping to look back at the towers rather than pushing straight into another uphill walk.
    Evening
Return along the river before dinner. If your legs need a break, keep the evening around Plaza Nueva and save the Albaicín climb for tomorrow, when you can explore its lanes in daylight.
    Dinner
Choose a tapas bar near the center and order fried fish with a drink, then decide whether you need a fuller dinner.
  2. Day 2: The cathedral and the Albaicín

    Morning
Visit the cathedral and Royal Chapel as separate stops, checking their official opening hours first. Walk through the Alcaicería afterwards, then use Plaza Bib-Rambla for a seated break before the afternoon climb.
    Afternoon
From Plaza Nueva, climb through the Albaicín toward Plaza Larga and Mirador de San Nicolás. Take the lanes slowly and pause in the squares; reaching the viewpoint before sunset gives you more room to look around.
    Evening
Walk downhill while there is still light, then cross toward Realejo for dinner around Campo del Príncipe. This gives the evening a different setting without committing to another long climb.
    Dinner
Find a neighborhood restaurant around Campo del Príncipe and order grilled vegetables and a meat or fish dish to share.
Tips

Tips for 2 days in Granada

  • Choose your Alhambra slot before arranging the rest of the weekend, then leave enough time to reach the Nasrid Palaces within the grounds.
  • Wear shoes with grip for the Albaicín's stone lanes, and carry water before starting the afternoon climb.
  • Check cathedral and Royal Chapel opening hours separately, as one visit does not guarantee access to the other.
Questions

2 days in Granada: palaces, viewpoints and tapas

Is two days enough for Granada?

Two days gives you time for the Alhambra, cathedral and a walk through the Albaicín. Keep Sacromonte, La Cartuja and a mountain excursion for a longer stay.

Which day should I visit the Alhambra?

Use whichever day has a suitable available ticket. Swap the two days if necessary, keeping the Nasrid Palaces appointment as the fixed point around which you organize the visit.

Can I walk everywhere on this itinerary?

The route is walkable if you are comfortable with hills and uneven paving. Use a city minibus or taxi for the Alhambra climb if you want to save your energy.

Do I need a sunset visit to San Nicolás?

No. An earlier visit usually gives you more space at the viewpoint and makes the descent easier to follow in daylight.
