Buda Castle and Fisherman's Bastion entry and tickets
Treat Castle Hill as several visits connected by a walk. The palace courtyards, museum entrances and Bastion terraces have different access arrangements, so there is no single ticket covering everything you see outside. Start by choosing whether you want art, church interiors or just an outdoor route, then build the walk around those decisions.

Outdoor walk
Many public streets, palace outdoor spaces and lower Bastion terraces can be visited free. Temporary works or events may affect individual routes, so follow signs on the hill.
Upper Bastion terraces
The upper viewing sections have separate admission arrangements. Check the official information for the hours when a ticket is required and which sections it includes.
Palace museums
The Hungarian National Gallery and Budapest History Museum have separate admissions. Choose according to your interests, and check exhibitions, opening arrangements and any additional ticket requirements.
Matthias Church interior
A church visit is separate from the surrounding outdoor walk. Check the official visitor arrangements, since worship and events can affect access.

The best time to visit
Choose clear weather if the outdoor views are your main aim. For a museum visit, check opening arrangements first and leave the terraces for the remaining daylight rather than fixing the whole route around a photograph.
How to get to Buda Castle and Fisherman's Bastion
Bus 16 serves Castle Hill from Deák Ferenc tér and Széll Kálmán tér. Szentháromság tér is a convenient stop for Matthias Church and the Bastion, a few minutes away on foot. Allow roughly 15 to 20 minutes to walk toward the palace.
Tips for your visit
- Wear shoes suitable for uneven paving and steps between different levels of the hill.
- Choose one palace museum first if you want enough time to examine its collections.
- Check access separately for the church tower, church interior and upper Bastion terraces.

Is there one ticket for the castle and the Bastion?
No single standard ticket covers all the hill's attractions. Outdoor areas, museums, church visits and upper terraces have separate access arrangements.
Can I visit without climbing from the river?
Yes. Bus 16 reaches the hilltop district. You will still walk between sights, with some uneven paving and changes in level.
How far apart are the palace and the Bastion?
Allow roughly 15 to 20 minutes on foot between the palace area and the Bastion, with extra time for courtyard detours.
Do I need an upper terrace ticket for a river view?
No. Lower public terraces also offer river views. Check signs to distinguish those areas from sections with separate admission.
