Staying in Işıklar and Güllük: two different bases

Treat Işıklar and Güllük as separate locations when comparing accommodation. Işıklar follows the southern side of the center near Karaalioğlu Park, while Güllük Caddesi runs farther west and north. A listing using both names can hide a substantial difference in walking routes. Check the actual entrance on a map, particularly if you plan to return from the harbor each evening.

Our verdict

The streets and avenues north of Kaleiçi: a five to ten minute walk into the old town, with more ordinary hotels and shops.

Good for

  • Walking to Kaleiçi in under ten minutes
  • More room and plainer prices than the old town
  • Shops, cafés and the tram close by

Think twice if

  • You want the old-town atmosphere around the hotel itself
  • You want a very quiet street: the avenues carry traffic

Eating

Eating in Işıklar and Güllük

Işıklar has pavement seating and places suited to a meal before a park walk. Güllük offers more everyday takeaway counters, bakeries and lunch restaurants along its shopping streets. On either avenue, walk one street back before choosing a table if traffic noise matters to you.

Getting around

Getting around from Işıklar and Güllük

Işıklar is served by the nostalgic T2 tram on Atatürk Caddesi. From lower Güllük, the same line is accessible around Konyaaltı Caddesi. For the T1 line, check the walk to Muratpaşa or İsmetpaşa from your exact address; Güllük covers too long a stretch for one station to suit every hotel.
