Comino and the Blue Lagoon from Valletta

Decide first whether you want to land on Comino or spend most of the trip aboard a boat. These produce different days, even when both advertise the Blue Lagoon. An early crossing gives you more choice of space ashore, while a cruise can reduce transport changes if its departure point is convenient.

How to get to Comino and the Blue Lagoon from Valletta

  1. Bus and boat from Ċirkewwa, allow at least 2 hours overall

Take a bus from Valletta toward Ċirkewwa, then use a Comino boat service. Check the sailing point, return arrangements and current landing requirements before travel. Allow extra time for road traffic, boarding and finding the correct boat.

  2. Excursion boat, usually a full day including stops

Choose a trip with a clearly stated departure point, such as the Sliema waterfront, and allow time to reach it from Valletta. Read whether the trip includes landing on Comino, swimming from the boat or both before booking.

  3. Boat from Mġarr on Gozo, a short crossing after reaching Gozo

Use this route if you are already on Gozo or have deliberately planned the connection through Mġarr. Confirm the Comino departure and return point locally. From Valletta, the extra ferry connection makes this a less direct choice.

What to see

What to see in Comino and the Blue Lagoon

  1. The Blue Lagoon shoreline

Expect a rocky shore and limited comfortable space beside the water. Arrive early, keep access paths clear and check the conditions before entering the sea.

  2. The view toward Cominotto

Look across the lagoon toward the small neighboring island. Enjoy the view from shore rather than assuming the crossing is suitable for swimming.

  3. Santa Marija Bay

If your landing time allows, consider walking toward Santa Marija Bay. Carry water and a map, and check the return walking time before leaving the lagoon.

  4. The coastal paths

Walk a short section away from the main landing area for a different view of Comino. Wear proper shoes and keep back from exposed edges.

Tour or on your own

Go on your own, or take a tour?

Go independently via Ċirkewwa if an early landing and control over your return matter most. Choose a boat excursion if you prefer an arranged day and can accept its fixed stops. In either case, confirm shore access separately from the boat booking and check what happens if sea conditions change.
