Things to do in Utrecht: things to do around the sunken canals
Utrecht is a medieval Dutch city with canals that sit two levels below the street, a cathedral tower you can climb and a student crowd that keeps it lively. It is small, so two days is plenty. The one thing to know: it is much quieter than Amsterdam, and it is only half an hour away by train.

Autumn is quieter and good for museums and cafes. Winters are cold and gray, but the Dom Tower and the canals look good in clear weather, and the city has a Christmas market feel in December.
