Staying in New Town (Nové Město)

New Town covers a large area, so a district label alone tells you little about the walk home. An address near Národní suits theater visits, while streets around Karlovo náměstí put you closer to the southern riverfront. Check the nearest junction as well as the hotel street: tram traffic can be noticeable in rooms facing major roads.

Our verdict

Wide streets, trams and metro lines everywhere, and prices a step below the Old Town.

Good for

  • Value close to the center
  • Metro and trams at the door
  • The National Theatre, Dancing House and river on foot

Think twice if

  • You want old streets and atmosphere outside the door
  • You choose a street right on the busy main road

Eating

Eating in New Town (Nové Město)

Café Louvre is convenient for a meal around Národní, while U Fleků sits on Křemencova farther south. Away from these named options, look for weekday lunch menus in ordinary restaurants. Check whether a cafe serves cooked food before relying on it for dinner.

Getting around

Getting around from New Town (Nové Město)

Národní třída and Karlovo náměstí are on metro line B. Muzeum connects lines A and C at the eastern side. Several tram corridors cross the district, so use the stop closest to your entrance rather than assuming the nearest metro is easiest.

Questions

Staying in New Town (Nové Město)

How do I choose between New Town locations?

Use the nearest station or junction to compare addresses. Národní, Karlovo náměstí and Muzeum give quite different walking routes.

Can I walk to the river easily?

From the western part of New Town, yes. Follow Národní or streets toward the Dancing House, depending on your starting point.

Will a room beside a tram route be noisy?

It can be. Ask whether your room faces the street or a courtyard, especially if you sleep with windows open.
